Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Officer
Humanitarian aid in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) aims to meet basic human needs such as the provision of and access to safe drinking water and sanitation in acute emergencies and protracted crises.
Safe water and sanitation and good hygiene practices are essential to prevent outbreaks of water-borne diseases such as cholera or other transmittable diseases. Humanitarian aid in the WASH field also interacts closely with health, protection, shelter and site planning, and food security sectors.
Specific profile requirements for WASH Officers
- University degree in civil engineering, environmental studies, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, public health or related field of study;
- Technical expertise in the areas of WASH assessments, programme design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
- Experience in WASH cluster coordination desirable
General profile requirements
- German citizenship;
- University degree or relevant occupational training;
- At least three years of relevant professional experience; at least one of which in the desired professional profile in a humanitarian mission (or comparable);
- Experience in crisis or conflict areas desirable;
- Excellent oral and written English language skills (C1 level and above);
- Further language skills at level B2 and above desirable (especially French, Spanish and Arabic – in some cases level B1 may be acceptable for Arabic language skills);
- Physical and mental fitness for travel to tropical areas;
- Availability for a deployment for at least six months.
